Concord College Summer School is an international community set in the heart of the Shropshire countryside. The college offers a range of academic courses, as well as English Language and Science courses for students along with a range of recreational activities to students aged 11-16 years during the summer period from July to August. The excellent academic and recreational facilities provide international students with a fantastic British summer school experience. We currently have the following vacancies:

 

SUMMER SCHOOL OPERATIONS & ACTIVITIES MANAGER

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Operations & Activities Manager to join our 2024 Summer School.  This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a passionate and driven team in a diverse and fast paced environment.  The Operations & Activities Manager will have responsibility for the arrangement, coordination, and management of the day-to-day programme of activities and events.  The successful applicant will possess generosity of spirit and a willingness to go the extra mile for our students.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as is the ability to build relationships with our staff and students and work flexibly, even when under pressure.  The Operations & Activities Manager is required to be resident on campus during the Summer School and will work evenings and weekends on a rota basis.

Applicants must have experience of working in a boarding environment or in a school operational role.  The successful candidate must have previous experience of operational or event management and people management or supervision. Teaching experience is desirable, although not essential.

Proficiency in both spoken and written English and previous experience of living or working in the UK is essential.

Session 1: Monday 24 June – Tuesday 16 July 2024

Session 2: Wednesday 17 July – Tuesday 6 August 2024

Please note:  The above dates include induction training days, which are paid contracted days and attendance is mandatory for all Summer School staff.

The salary range for session 1 is between £2,745 and £2,921 and is dependent upon qualification and experience.

The salary range for session 2 is between £2,470 and £2,629 and is dependent upon qualification and experience.

These figures are based on working a full session.

In addition to a competitive salary, the College provides accommodation, a laundry service and three meals a day.

The role involves planning and delivering high quality lessons, incorporating practical work, to students with a wide range of abilities to improve their skills and knowledge of the subject area. As a member of the STEM department, you will need an energetic and enthusiastic approach to deliver engaging and motivational teaching. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as is an adaptable approach to team working and teaching and the ability to work flexibly even when under pressure. In addition to delivering a high standard academic programme, applicants are expected to contribute to the Summer School’s Social Programme. As this role will include evening and weekend work on a rota basis, a residential option is available.

Applicants must have a degree in their chosen subject (Biology) and preferably have a PGCE in that discipline along with at least one year’s teaching experience.

Proficiency in both spoken and written English and previous experience of living or working in the UK is essential.

We are seeking to appoint suitably qualified and experienced Sports Teachers to join session 1 of our 2024 Summer School. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a passionate and driven team in a diverse and fast paced environment. The role involves planning and delivering effective sports coaching on the Summer School Enrichment Activity Programme and during leisure time. As a Sports Teacher, you will need an energetic and enthusiastic approach to deliver engaging and motivational sports coaching. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as is an adaptable approach to team working and teaching and ability to work flexibly even when under pressure. In addition to delivering a high standard Enrichment Activity Programme, applicants are expected to contribute to the Summer School’s Social Programme. As this role will include evening and weekend work on a rota basis, a residential option is available.

Applicants must have a degree or equivalent qualification and experience in a relevant discipline, along with additional coaching awards and preferably have a PGCE in that discipline, along with at least one year’s teaching experience.

Proficiency in both spoken and written English and previous experience of living or working in the UK is essential.

SUMMER SCHOOL SWIMMING INSTRUCTOR – SESSION 2

We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Swimming Instructor to join session 2 of our 2024 Summer School. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a passionate and driven team in a diverse and fast paced environment. The role involves planning and delivering fun and engaging swimming activity classes as part of the Summer School’s Enrichment Activity Programme. The successful applicant will need an energetic and enthusiastic approach to deliver engaging and motivational teaching to enable students to improve their skills and knowledge in their chosen enrichment activity. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential as is an adaptable approach to team working and teaching and the ability to work flexibly even when under pressure.

This is a part-time post; applicants will be required to deliver 4 x 1.5-hour swimming sessions each week on the Enrichment Activity Programme  between 3.30pm and 5pm.

Applicants must have an SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming or equivalent qualification. Previous experience of teaching/instructing children and a valid first aid certificate is essential.
