We welcome close to 600 international students aged 10-17 to our summer programmes during July and August where they benefit from expert learning on our English,  Science & Maths or Future Leaders courses and enjoy many activities and experiences as part of their academic timetable.

SUMMER SCHOOL EFL TEACHER

Concord College requires teaching staff with a specialism in English as a Foreign Language for its summer course for students aged 10-17 years. The College is situated in a beautiful rural location in close proximity to Shrewsbury and the Shropshire hills. There are excellent sports and leisure facilities on campus including two large sports halls, squash courts, aerobics and weight training room, climbing wall, running track, indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor sports pitches and courts and a modern high ropes adventure course. There are also creative facilities including a theatre, dance studio and art rooms. The College’s new prestigious 22 laboratory science building is available for students studying the sciences.

The course (including staff induction and post-course de-brief) will run as follows: 

Wednesday 29 June to Thursday 21 July 2022  

Please note:  Induction training days (and post-course de-brief days) are paid contracted days and attendance is mandatory for all summer school staff.

Almost all summer school teachers are residential and some undertake additional paid boarding parenting duties.  Accommodation, full board and a laundry service are provided.

Teachers are supported by an experienced academic management team and benefit from regular in-service training workshops.  All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and PCs with internet access and a comprehensive library of up-to-date teaching resources and equipment is available. WiFi is enabled throughout the campus.

We only employ teachers with a proficient level of English (both spoken and written) and previous experience of living or working in the UK. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK as the College does not apply for work permits, visas or offer sponsorship.

Qualifications

Applicants must have as a minimum a degree plus an accredited EFL qualification such as Cambridge CELTA, Trinity TESOL or a degree/MA in a related field. At least one year’s EFL teaching experience is desirable.  PGCE qualified teachers should have an English or Modern Foreign Languages teaching background or TEFL qualification or recent experience. Diploma qualified teachers may be considered for a more senior position.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range for the course – £1,662 up to £2,562*.

These figures are based on teachers working a full course.

* The basic salary may increase by a maximum of nine increments, which are based on qualifications and experience (the value of each increment is £100, leading to a maximum salary of £2,562).

Teachers who take on additional boarding parenting responsibilities will receive an additional allowance – £330 up to £590.

Applicants must have completed and achieved qualifications at level 3 (e.g. AS/A level). Applicants must also currently be working towards (or have obtained) a degree, preferably in a subject which is relevant to this post. Experience of working with young people is preferred.

The Boarding Assistant (Residential) will be in charge of a boarding house and responsible for the welfare of the students in that accommodation.  They will offer ‘home to care’ support for students during the day, being a key contact point in the house. They will be responsible for coordinating a team of residential staff for pastoral supervision, bedtime checks and overnight care.  The role also includes assisting the management and medical team on a rota basis throughout the day with escorting students to medical appointments, updating student records and other relevant duties. Accommodation, full board and a laundry service are provided.

All staff are supported by an experienced management team and benefit from regular in-service training workshops.  All boarding houses have access to a PC with internet access and WiFi is enabled throughout the campus.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants must have a suitable qualification in childcare or nursing, or previous experience in a similar pastoral role in a residential school. A full clean driving licence is required. First aid knowledge is essential and a first aid certificate is desirable or a willingness to work towards one is essential.
